Write a screenplay for a short film (4-6 minutes). General rules suggest one page of script will equal approximately a minute of screen time. You can think of this screenplay as a character study—a study that is wide open to any location, period of time, age, situation, etc. Develop a character that interests you. What is this character’s back story? What one, small event might you develop as a formative moment in her life? What story from another point in her life might also be worth telling? Your screenplay should feel complete (that it can stand on its own and would be worth watching) and should be formatted according to industry standards.
<
<
You must include no less than seven scenes.
<
Your screenplay must include a journey of some kind (I’ll let you define exactly how you want to define the concept of a journey).
<
There must be a surprising revelation or discovery that generates a strong impact (for both character and spectator).
<
At least one scene must be out of chronological order.
<
Keep things simple – write the screenplay don’t direct it. Be wary of indicating camera movement, angles or editing techniques.
<
Privilege description over dialogue – remember cinema is a visual medium (what we see is usually far more important than the characters’ dialogue).
<
Make sure every word of dialogue counts. A character should never say more than is absolutely necessary

Do not address everything.

Watch Set It Off and compare to The Hate U Give.  How do the films address ideas in Herstory: Black Lives Matter and/or ideas in one of the other readings, Rock-a-Bye Baby or What it do Shorty?  How do the films address stereotypes, gender, and/or power relationships in the films? Consider how race affects or does not affect power and knowledge, and what is considered true or truth.  Pick one of the issues suggested above to focus on and then compose a thesis around that idea to compare/contrast Set It Off and The Hate U Give. Pick one focus. Do not address everything.
Using your own ideas as well as ones from at least one other course article and another new academic one you find independently, argue your point with examples from mise en scene, other readings, narrative, etc.  Be sure to briefly quote from the readings.  Remember, your paper must also include a NEW academic article and be a minimum of 650

Title your post with the name of the film viewed for this genre. Then, write a two or more paragraph response to this DF question and begin each paragraph with a topic sentence. Do reflect the readings in your response. ENG 304 is an English department course; therefore, all work should be edited with care. The minimum length of submissions is 400 words. As well, be certain to respond to one classmate’s submission.
<
<
<
The key issue in writing these two paragraph essays is to ensure that you have one sentence, the thesis sentence, that states the goal of your response in the first paragraph.
<
<
As well, make certain that each successive paragraph begins with a topic sentence that links back to the thesis sentence and that states the goal of that particular paragraph. Now, make certain that each succeeding sentence in that paragraph in some way ties into that topic sentence.
<
<
Obviously, if the paper has an introductory paragraph, it must also have a concluding statement that, in some way, echoes the thesis sentence, and which might make a prediction for the future or, summarize the paper itself. And, do use the name of your chosen film as the title of your essay.
<
<
Please also add: Action scenes are used to shape audience understanding of, and the development of, the main character; to move the plot forward; and, at the film’s end, define the outcome of the protagonist’s journey to successfully prevail against seemingly overwhelming odds.
<
do not just add the sentence word for word please incorporate it in the essay
<
<
Please use the movie Spider-Man 2002
